Radio & TV Display, Midlands, 17th August.
Hi,
Members in the Midlands might like to know that I'm putting on another display of some of my radio & television sets at the Lupin Farm Gathering of Vintage & Classic Vehicles this Sunday, 17th August. Lupin Farm (the pink farmhouse) is on the A513 at Orgreave, between Kings Bromley and Alrewas, near Lichfield in Staffordshire and is easily spotted - especially on showday! Proceeds of the day go to St Giles Hospice & other local charities. We will be pleased to see you if you come along in, or on, something vintage/classic or if you just come as a visitor. Attached are a few pictures of the displays of sets from previous years. Look forward to perhaps meeting some of you there. Phil. |

Nice displays Phil.
Unfortunately I'm tied to home this weekend or it would have been worth a special trip! Good luck and I look forward to seeing some more pictures. Regards,

Hi Phil,
I only live about 3 miles away so I will try and pop up and have a look. What time does it run from and till? Also any idea of the entrance fee? I did a google search but couldn't find any info. Chris. |

Re: Radio & TV Display, Midlands, 17th August.
Hi,
Thanks for the posts. The event is open to the public from around noon, earlier for exhibitors with classic vehicles, and usually draws to a close at around 16:30. There is no fixed entrance fee, just a donation to the charities as you enter the field. Do come and say 'hello' if you come along. Phil. |

Vintage Telly at Lupin Farm
Just a quick thumbs up to forum members Phil Marrison and Andy (surname?) who provided a working display of vintage 405 and 625 line sets today at the Lupin Farm Classic Car, Tractor and, er, telly show at Orgreave near Lichfield. If you like old motors (and it seems many old tv enthusiasts do), this annual show is highly recommended.
Phil and Andy had seven sets running all day and they generated a lot of interest from visitors. The tellies encompassed the full classic era from a Ekco TMB272, Pye V14 providing excellent results and Stella badged T-Vette. Colour was represented by a nice Murphy A823 and a rare 16" Decca 80. All were showing period programming and the air was thick with nostalgia and line whistles. It was nice to prove to the public that 1950s sets can produce crisps pictures and not the fuzzy blur that seems to have established itself in the public conscious! Well done Phil and Andy on providing a fine array of TVs, tape recorders, record players and radios. Perhaps one of you has some photos to upload? Steve J |

Re: Radio & TV Display, Midlands, 17th August.
Here are a few photos of yesterdays display.
The weather stayed dry all day for us this year, thankfully, and the numbers of both vehicles and visitors were 'up' on previous years. We had a steady stream of visitors to look at the radio & tv display from 0830 while setting up, until around 1700 when we played 'The Queen' (the BBC Closedown Version - naturally) on the Clarke & Smith schools record player to signal the end of proceedings! Several forum members came along including Colourstar (in a Classic Morris), OldBoffin & MultiDERrentals and family. Thanks must go to Andy (AF024) for bringing along some items from his collection and helping man the display and neighbour Hugh for helping with transport and to man the display. As of this evening, I understand that the total raised is around £3,200 for the charities. Phil. |

Re: Radio & TV Display, Midlands, 17th August.
Thanks for everyone's kind posts. It takes a bit of doing, but it's all worth it it in the end.
It was also good to meet up with fellow enthusiasts again. Regards, Andy (Finch) PS Did anyone spot the socks dangling over the HMV 101? Yes they were used, as in, 'Put a sock in it'. PPS It was also interesting to note that the old Marx Lumar battery toy record players captivated several young children. It's nice to know that they can give MP3 files a run for their money.

Re: Radio & TV Display, Midlands, 17th August.
Looking at the pictures I'm struck by one rather sad thought - all the stuff on display is younger than me. I remember when it was the latest thing (I even remember when 9" mono TVs were the latest thing). Maybe I should be put on display as the radio & TV engineer of yesteryear...!
Well, they say nostalgia ain't what it used to be! Looks like a great display. -Tony |

Re: Radio & TV Display, Midlands, 17th August.
Just got to say thanks to all involved for organising the display/demo. I havent seen any working 405 TVs since the early 90s.... nice to hear that old line whistle again LOL! My 3 year old son Alex had a great time too and loved the old kiddies record players. Nice to meet and chat with several enthusiasts from this site too.
Cheers, Chris. |

Re: Radio & TV Display, Midlands, 17th August.
The Ferguson 3629 '11" Personal' had a day out at one of the previous displays, and is shown in the first photo of this thread.
I always try to show a different range of sets each year - that makes me restore a few 'new' sets each year too........ Phil. |
