PYE B18t or BV20 ?
Hello,
recently I have bought on an early PYE tv set, see photos: http://bs.cyty.com/menschen/e-etzold...mg/B18t_01.jpg http://bs.cyty.com/menschen/e-etzold...mg/B18t_02.jpg http://bs.cyty.com/menschen/e-etzold...mg/B18t_03.jpg http://bs.cyty.com/menschen/e-etzold...mg/B18t_04.jpg http://bs.cyty.com/menschen/e-etzold...mg/B18t_05.jpg I don't have the original back of this set, so I assumed that this is a B18t. But I noticed that the LV20 and the BV20 looks very similar to this set. The chassis correspond to the schematics of the B18t. Which model is this tv set? Kind regards, Eckhard |

Hi.
Can't tell by looking at the chassis, but the cabinet looks like a B18T to me. Regards Alan McGregor |

Re: PYE B18t or BV20 ?
Hello,
thank you very much for your feedback! Here are some photos, collected with Google: Declared as LV20 / BV20: http://www.oldtechnology.net/images/pyelv20.jpg http://www.scienceandsociety.co.uk/p...y_10463821.jpg http://farm1.static.***********/91/27...186565.jpg?v=0 http://www.scienceandsociety.co.uk/p...y_10251119.jpg http://www.thevalvepage.com/tv/pye/bv20/front.jpg Declared as B18t: http://www.scienceandsociety.co.uk/p...y_10251132.jpg http://freespace.virgin.net/andy.valve/pics/b18t.jpg http://www.domino405.co.uk/pictures/100_1712.jpg It is not really clear, which tv set belongs to the model LV20/BV20 or the B18t. The corners of the cabinet looks different. This seems to be one criterium. Perhaps these with the ridged corners might be the earlier sets since the later sets (LV30) have sharp corners. Here is a Youtube video of my PYE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWtNOIH_w0M and here is another Youtube video with the LV30: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dl8wx-OlzfA Kind regards, Eckhard |

Re: PYE B18t or BV20 ?
Has yours got cloth speaker grills or slatted wood ? I think the 18 was cloth , the 20 slatted wood

Difficult to tell then . Its possible the slatted wood models are a later version than the cloth ones which may be an earlier run of sets . But it doesnt help tell which model yours is unfortunately.

Yes, it is really puzzling. Here you find the PYE B18t with a cloth speaker grille:
http://www.thevalvepage.com/dbase/pye/ad/b18t_adv.jpg My personal impression is that the LV20 followed after the B18t without a clear distinction. |

Re: PYE B18t or BV20 ?
I recall seeing a Pye similar to these with what must have been a 9 inch tube and walnut case but with thumbwheel type controls and a sloping back making the top about an inch narrower than the bottom, what model would that be

Not got one to hand, but as you say it slopes at the back and is sharp cornered with a contrasting band of vener at the top . thumb wheel slots at the bottom . has a rubber masc instead of the plastic bubble screen of the earlier model

Re: PYE B18t or BV20 ?
That sounds like the one, slightly later than the others with more smaller valves, which I recall also had 45* offset square screening cans. Probably early fifties when the Coronation made TV more popular. If you have a chance to take a pic it would no doubt be of interest to others as well

Re: PYE B18t or BV20 ?
I'd guess that it is an LV20 becuse the tube has the later "duodecal" type base, the B18T usually has a similar tube with an 8-pin base.
Someone could have changed the tube of course... |

Re: PYE B18t or BV20 ?
I assume that the present CRT is a later replacement. The original CRT was not a duodecal one since the wires were soldered directly to the CRT base without a plugged socket.
