BUSH TV22 Actually TV62
Hello
You may recall the thread offering a Bush TV22 which turned out to be a TV62. The lady who posted the thread - Shirley - was about to take it to the tip. I couldn't see that happen so collected it a few weeks ago. Just a note to say it is up a running after a fairly standard struggle! Every piece of rubber insulated cable had to be replaced. The LOPT needed careful repair and all the wax caps needed changing along with a fair few resistors. It's not perfect but is not bad IMHO. Tube could be better AW36/21 but has improved with running. Couple of pictures as I promised Shirley and the original thread has closed. Glad I saved it from the tip just got to find the room for it! Regards Steve |

Re: BUSH TV22 Actually TV62
A very good save from the tip ! Well done that man.
These are very good sets and I like the chassis. Not too difficult to work on and capable of extremely good results. I restored its wooden brother, the TV53, a little while back. https://www.radios-tv.co.uk/communit...s/bush-tv53-2/

Re: BUSH TV22 Actually TV62
Hi Steve,
That's a nice looking set. The chassis looks very clean from the back. I used to have a TV53 and once restored a TV62 for someone. Nice sets to work on and I'm sure you will apreciate (as we both have a T36) a vast improvement on the previous range (T36, TUG36C, TV43 etc) in terms of servicability. These sets can give really good pictures, but the CRTs can be a problem if they develop an internal heater short. You can check this by measuring the AC heater voltage on the CRT when the set is running. Keep up the good work Cheers Andy

Re: BUSH TV22 Actually TV62
Hello
Thank you for your kind comments. I have far to many sets but I can't resist the unloved ones! My wife and I use old telly pick ups as an excuse for a day out. Young Stephen (Freya of this parish) is due a visit in Falmouth soon. Andy (Beery) you're spot on unfortunately it does have a heater short but after a bit of neck tapping it now reads 6.2v across it. So fingers crossed. The cabinet has polished up nicely and the back is perfect. Thanks again Regards to all Steve. |

Re: BUSH TV22 Actually TV62
Hello Helder
Yes - I agree her children urged her to "dump that old thing no one will be interested in it". One of my favourite 'rescues' is a Sobell T143 found by a roofer in a loft in Crystal Palace. His workmates had already put 'that load of rubbish' in the skip. He bet them that someone would want it. I saw it on eBay and paid £20 enjoyed a trip down memory to collect it - I spent 6 weeks "guarding" a manhole cover on Crystal Palace Parade in the winter of 1967 whilst working as an apprentice with the GPO - Coaxial cable gang. I sent him pictures of it working showing the ITA Croydon testcard and he sent me a picture of him spending his winnings with his workmates in the pub! He was a kindred spirit old British cars were his passion. Lovely bloke everyone wins! Regards Steve. |

Re: BUSH TV22 Actually TV62
Hi Steve
Thanks for sharing this great story. My involvement with vintage radio and tv is very recent, but the many stories and situations around it - in many cases true win-wins, as you point out - never cease to impress and touch me. I believe that eBay has been playing a very important role over the past years as many more people know about it (and gumtree and others) than about the BVWS or this forum. Online auction sites instigate new mindsets, e.g., whenever in doubt about the value of something, why not list it on eBay? It's a relatively easy thing to do (or you know someone who knows how) and your item will surely get a lot of exposure. Come to think of it, all of my vintage tv sets and radios (only 4 in total... so far) were purchased on eBay. Kind regards Helder |
