Default TA7642 radio using a giant vintage tuning capacitor

Thanks to a kind forum member, I obtained a vintage 'giant' tuning capacitor last year. Not sure if this is as big as they get. I was unsure of its capacitance range but thought of connecting it to my homebrew TA7642 based TRF MW radio and try it out. I am happy to report it works nicely. I can receive 4 stations clearly now. Will wait to see how it performs tonight.

Looks like a three gang 500pF....quite a standard item in sets fitted with an RF amp or bandpass tuning. Most standard sets would have used a two gang of the same values.

Thanks. Roughly how old would the tuning cap be and was it for a valve set ?

OED lists it thus:

"nonstandard (chiefly English regional and humorous)"
Anytime

So some sort of provenance

Here are a couple of my "giants".
When I started in this game they were normal sized receiving types.
