Hello
Could anyone please tell me the model number of this Monarch BSR Turntable and also the cartridge and Styli fitted and if both are still available to buy. Thanks for your help Andy |

Re: Early Monarch 3 Speed Turntable
Hi
I believe this is BSR’s first record changer, the UA5. It would have been fitted with a TC4 crystal cartridge, tracking at 15 grams. It looks as though the turntable mat has been replaced with one from the later UA8 model. |

Re: Early Monarch 3 Speed Turntable
Hello Andy
I have a TC4 cartridge, with good output. Removed from an early BSR single play turntable. I fitted it with new styli, before deciding to use a later BSR cartridge with lighter tracking. Interesting to see that connections were soldered directly onto the terminals with these. Obviously great care needed. (I cut the connections, just in case). The cartridge will have been unobtainable for many years, but styli do appear occasionally. If you are needing a cartridge, please let me know. Chris R |

Re: Early Monarch 3 Speed Turntable
Yes, these BSR UA5 are very rare now. It was BSR's first 3 speed autochanger from 1953. Now before we go further into the subject of cartridges, what type of records does the OP intend to pay on this? The cartridge in the photos above is a BSR TC4 mono type.

Re: Early Monarch 3 Speed Turntable
Hello Chris
Thanks for your message The cartridge fitted gives good output but as you say it's heavy. Replacing with a TC8 would change the look of the flag at the front. I noticed the terminals has been soldered errrrr i won't be doing that. It definitely needs two new styii are they still available? How much would you be looking for your cartridge Thanks for your message i really appreciate your help Andy |

Re: Early Monarch 3 Speed Turntable
Hello Andy
The Stylus Lady is selling the pair of styli for £9, plus £1 postage. You are welcome to my TC4. If you need it, given its rarity and that it has 2 new styli, would £20 be OK? Chris R |
