IDC edge connectors
What mean by the 'title' is a connector that can be clamped onto the normal 50-thou-spacing ribbon cable and which wlll fit onto the edge of a PCB making contact with finger traces on the 2 sides. For example a 34 pin one was commonly used in OLD PCs for the 5.25" floppy drive connection.
Within living memory they were available in all the standard sizes, now they seem to have vanished. I could use some 26 pin, 34 pin, and 50 pin ones for various projects, so I am looking for a supplier (not 1 or 2 from somebody's spares box). Do they still exist anywhere or are they long discontinued? (For personal reasons, relating to bad experiences in the past, I would rather avoid E-bay and Amazon if at all possible] |

Re: IDC edge connectors
Do you mean something like this?
https://www.digikey.co.uk/en/product...4-0203/1122547 Think it's for one side of a PCB, not sure if you can get the type that fits on the edge and connects to both sides of the PCB - but I didn't look through all the options! |

Re: IDC edge connectors
I've had a look through my collection of ribbon cables and found four 34 way connectors already attached to ribbon cables if they're of any use to you.
I have successfully reused such connectors in the past, or you may be able to use them attached to the cable.

Re: IDC edge connectors
No, that's what I would call a 'transition connector' I think. Crimps onto the cable and you solder it through-hole to the PCB. Two main types, one has the pins in 2 rows at 0.1" * 0.1" spacing, the other had an odd staggered arrangement.

Re: IDC edge connectors
I probably have a few 'on cables' in my own collection of spare ribbon cables, particularly the 34 pin ones. I'll use those if I have to, but I was wonderig if there is a source of new ones still.

I would imagine RS do "Whatever you want" as Status Quo once sang...

Re: IDC edge connectors
I think these are the items under discussion.

Re: IDC edge connectors
Putting "IDC card edge" into the Mouser search gives a few results;
