Default Mitsubishi DT-640 Cassette deck

Hi all just got hold of a mitsubishi DT-640 cassette deck I need to replace the main flat belt do I need to take the cassette unit apart to do this or is there a easier way any help would be appreciated thanks . also what size belt thanks.

Looking at the limited pictures I can find on the web I would say you have to at least loosen (to give a mm or so space) that rear plate the motor is mounted on. Occasionally there is a enough movement possible of the capstan flywheel to allow the belt to be passed between the rear bearing and the capstan shaft.

I doubt you will find a belt size measurement anywhere, you are going to have to remove it and knock perhaps 3 or 4 mm off what you measure.

Personally, I would remove the fascia and then the deck from the chassis.

You might be able to do it in-situ, but taking the whole thing out will give you much better access, as well as a chance to clean anything that needs cleaning too.

"Nice" manufacturers (Technics, Sony) made everything unpluggable. Others weren't always so kind, and so even simple jobs like this can be offputting!
