Default GEC 405 Line Factory 1960

After watching the British Relay tv youtube film, another film popped up on my list to watch .
Its the GEC TV factory in 1960 assembling 405 line TVs.
Quite an interesting watch also .

Cracking film. Nice to see the BT302/3 sets being assembled.

A great deal of care was taken with the design and build of the BT302 series. It was very reliable with only a very few stock faults. The hard cased capacitors held up fairly well. Even the Mazda [GEC labelled] tube seemed to last longer in the GEC compared with the Ekco, Murphy and Ultra models. J.

Very true, and a nice layout to work on too. Back in the early 70’s when I was a 405 line obsessed kid, I had a BT303 fringe area set. I was amazed that I could pull in a good picture on YTV from Emley Moor on a dipole stood indoors in a large bottle, when I couldn’t get anything on a standard 405 line set other than Anglia and BBC1 from Belmont. I remember being disappointed when Belmont switched to YTV in 1974 as I lost my second ITV.

I’ve got a BT302 now but it has a couple of faults I need to look at, distorted sound and saturation of the picture when you turn up the contrast. Any ideas of thoughts to the possible culprits would be appreciated.
