Default What is this belt?

I came across this belt amongst my stuff. I reckon it's a loading belt off a Sony Betamax video machine. Can anyone confirm and/or be more specific re model?

Didn't the Panasonic K-decks use something similar?

I'm going on sets that I have owned. I never collected VHS decks apart from a couple of Ferguson 3V23s.

I think I've only ever had to replace one of those belts. They are found in Sony Betas and Panny G decks.

A toothed belt seems like a good idea in quite a few applications such as carriage loading, where a simple flat belt tends to slacken and lose grip after only a few years. A pity more manufacturers did not use them given how well they seem to have fared.

I hope that in a few years' time we don't end up with piles of basket case VCRS when they all turn to goo or disintegrate or something!

If they're some sort of polyurethane, like the similarly coloured gears, they might disintegrate. Don't store your set under damp conditions.
