Default SAQ Transmission

Hi,

I haven't seen any mention of the transmission yesterday afternoon
from the Alexanderson transmitter SAQ at Grimeton, and I unfortunately
missed it.
For anyone who also missed it, there is a link to a video of the
startup and transmission given on the Summits on the Air reflector.

Kind regards
Dave

Hi,

Just a Datong VLF converter in front of an FT857.
and a short wire antenna at the moment.

When I was in Birmingham I used to have a Marconi CR200
and a home made VLF loop or a 50 foot wire, and received
SAQ pretty well.

Have missed every SAQ transmission in the three and a half
years since moving here, so don't know whether I would receive
it or not, although I can hear the US naval transmissions a little
higher up (and I am a bit closer) !

Kind regards
Dave

I too forgot (shame you all cry) this time, usually received using my Wellbrook loop and an SDR. I was sent a QSL card (via e-mail) last time, printed it and is now on display on my wall at work. When fellow engineers and scientists* visit my domain it is a start for a conversation, only one person said "that's sad, old tech.", their loss.

*Scientists, we have a lot here and I am an interface twixt hem and reality, i.e. "make that work", great job!

I watched the start up live on their Youtube Channel, then heard the transmission using my SDR Play RSP2 and SDR Uno. Long wire antenna.
Pity they only stayed on for 10 minutes.

The generator frequency is controlled by liquid-conductor variable resistors. The videos don't say much about these, but they were originally used to provide telephone modulation during the war.

There's some nice historic notes and pictures in Grimeton - The Movie

That's a nice film, but many viewers must get the impression that the big generating machine is feeding power into an unseen transmitter, rather than the machine itself being the actual transmitter.

Hi,

There appears to be another transmission today from SAQ Grimeton
at 1800.
I'm not absolutely certain, as the date is coloured red on their site, and
the Swedish word next to 18.00 means nothing to me, but worth checking
for anybody in a position to receive 17.2 kHz.

Kind regards
Dave

I don't think that's a transmitting schedule.

Styrelsemöte = Board meeting

Trivselkväll = Well-being evening

Hi Graham,

Many thanks for the info, I thought it might be the 'Christmas Transmission'
I'm a bit relieved actually, as I've been wondering what to use for an aerial!

Xmas Greetings and stay safe,

Kind regards
Dave

That is correct Mick, I read the same, possibly on South Gate Amateur Radio News.
