Philips D 7234 Cassette Issue
Hi all
I was using this old thing to go through my cassettes when it developed a ticking. Luckily it didn't destroy a tape as now, when in play, the take-up spool starts then stops. Capstan carries on. Second photo shows where, by pushing on the cog gently left, take-up starts. Auto stop is not happening at all. Is this ever going to work again? Sean

Re: Philips D 7234 Cassette Issue
Sean, I’ll let the experts guide you further, but I’m afraid the plastic parts in these 40+ year old decks is beginning to crack and crumble, often making repair almost impossible.
I pulled a D8334 out of a bin recently and got the radio working brilliantly, but there seemed too much wrong with the decks to contemplate repair. For example, even the pole pieces had dropped out of the erase heads due to liquefaction of the securing resin. Last edited by Nickthedentist; 10th Jul 2022 at 12:03 pm. |

Unfortunately you are right. One plastic cog is missing teeth.
It is free to anybody who wants to pay postage for it. Tons of bits. It was perfect working order for a day! Sean
