Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd July 2022
Just wanted to add my thanks to all who worked so hard to make the day enjoyable - I managed to last the whole day for the first time in a couple of years (recovering from a few health issues). I only bought one radio at the auction - a Murphy A140C - always wanted one and it was very reasonable cost-wise - luckily, I do have a space for it.
I did get rid of a fair bit of stuff through the B&B - thankyou! I was surprised that the attendance numbers were a bit down - it did mean that the auction prices were very low - anyone care to comment on why attendance was so low? Cheers - and thanks again Andy |

Well for me it's purely a question of distance.

Likewise - even from my sister's place in Worcestershire it's a fair old schlep.

I was really looking forward to this event. Sadly have gone down with a nasty infection and am now on a course of strong antibiotics.
But glad everyone had a good day.

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd July 2022
I know a few people (including a couple of the usual helpers and committee etc) had to drop out due to health issues, either theirs or family members.
I suspect the cost of fuel currently may have put some people off too, especially if they need to travel some distance or have less economical vehicles. |

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd July 2022
I would have made the pilgrimage down and made it part of a holiday but unfortunately due to some major health issues with the distaff side we're pretty much very restricted in our ability to travel very far and overnight stays are simply out of the question.
Fingers crossed for next year or even possibly December. I also suspect that the perfect storm of Vehicle fuel and general energy prices combined with racing inflation (£5 a pint in a northern pub, whats that about!) has clipped the wings of many of us, especially those on fixed pensions. Andy. |

I thoroughly enjoyed the event which was very well organised. I bought lots of useful spares and the Ekco PB199 and HMV 1121 from the auction.

That's very interesting Peter, myself, Philip Taylor and John Pearson (Hove Radio) have all come down with Covid since attending RWB, Has anyone one else caught it while there?

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd July 2022
I've escaped it, but I had it about 4 months ago so should still have immunity from that (and the jabs).
I hope you all feel better soon. |

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd July 2022
I was on The B&B all day along with Barrie and Malcolm.
Barrie has come down with it but Malcolm and myself ( we all travelled together) are fine. I have tested myself twice this week since Barrie let me know. Cheers Mike T

Me too, already recovering. It took a couple of days to kick in.

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd July 2022
Well, surprisingly I tested negative at the care home yesterday for my weekly visit. Considering my stall was next to the auction stand and I had served just about everyone on the day, I am rather amazed that I made it through unscathed. It was an exceptionally great day out, I sold most items (I will probably be lugging the KB320 along for a while yet until it eventually sells). I bought the "Micovac" CT54 ex-RAF valve voltmeter in the auction for £5, I also bought an American book on collecting transistor radios from the stall next to mine for £5. Lovely to have got back together again for a summer event, thanks to all those involved in making it work.

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd July 2022
Hello,
Snap, I went down with covid much the same time as everyone else. My Son who lives in Bristol said he went down with Covid beginning of the week and he said its also running roughshod around the staff at Computershare in Bristol where he works. I hasten to add I did not see my son when I was in the RWB area last week! Seeing Glastonbury isn’t too far away from RWB and also Bristol, maybe the Glastonbury festival was a super spreader event, which sent ‘viral’ waves out across the area? I was already very cautious and mindful towards Covid, but after this escapade, with the increased transmissibility of these new mutations, I’ve a renewed and vastly heightened respect towards Covid! Neil, a visit to the swapmeet at RWB isn’t complete until I’ve bought something from Neil’s stall. The Stylophone I bought off your stall will add to one of the up-and-coming articles. Regards Terry |

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd July 2022
Looking forward to seeing your article about the Stylophone Terry, that example is coming up towards 55 years old now so definitely falls into the vintage category. It is becoming a struggle to obtain the fresh stock these days as the car boots are more sparse, but I usually manage to pull something out of the bag and keep the stall interesting for everyone.

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd July 2022
If there were a prize for best turned out stall at RWB with interesting items always at keen prizes I think Neil would take the prize more often than not.
Cheers Mike T

Thanks Mike, very much appreciated, I always try to stock a good range of items at affordable prices so that there is something for everyone.
