Default Collection of Vintage goods during crisis.

Apologies to mods if this post is not within the rules ,but i have a couple of items awaiting collection by myself bought/given by members of our forum, and i was thinking are we actually allowed to collect?given that obviously we will comply to social distancing rules.
One of my items is about 40 miles away but would this be termed as essential travel?

I reckon you will be perfectly safe.
The greatest danger point is between touch screen phones and the produce in supermarkets especially ready to eat fruit.
Pretty well anything else can confidently be considered safe.

Seems its ok as long as you act responsibly and prob comes under the meet in groups of up to 6 people outside. Not that there will be any contact, literally just collect and from a distance.

Also note that some rules in Wales and Scotland differ, so if the collection is from one of those countries you need to follow those rules once you cross the borders. Here in Wales (which is within the 40 miles you mentioned) the "stay local" rule is lifted tomorrow, outdoor gatherings are maximum 2 households not 6 people, and 2 metres still applies.

Although as you say an item left for collection on a driveway or somewhere at distance isn't really a gathering and would be more than 2 metres anyway.

Yes, given that distant travel is no longer an issue (at least here in England), this is no different from a neighbour picking up a package that was left with me while they were out.

Distance can always be maintained by the item being placed for the recipient to pick up while the other person withdraws to a safe distance, though extra considerations are necessary with items that need more than one person to lift.

You may also want to use gloves or place a blanket over the item before lifting it, then leave it in the car or garage or somewhere for a few days, depending on your own level of concern and any health conditions etc. Many shops quarantine returns and customer-handled goods for 72 hours.

That is for your own consideration and not for discussion here as there will inevitably be a variety of opinions.

I sold and donated some stuff to forum members, we all behaved well and obeyed the guidance rules. No probs at all, we are all old enough and responsible enough to stay safe.
