That will not work on its own, you need a 405 line standards converter to provide the final signal that you plug into the set.
The freeview (which is 625 lines) can be used to supply the video signal to the 405 standards converter

If you think you have mixed up the valves. Lay them all out on a white cloth and post a picture. I/we can probably identify them. John.

Right at the beginning Colourstar (Steve) told you you needed a standards converter It seems you may have understood what that was.

Cheers

Sorry but no they didn't

Colourstar told you in post #8 that you needed a 625 to 405 standards converter and they cost around £200

that requires you to lay the valves out on some plain paper and take a picture, write a number under each valve starting with 1 etc so they can be identified.

valves 3 and 5 go into V6, V7
valve 4 goes to V17

Hopefully that is the sound of a healthy 405 line 'whistle', which if you've never experienced a vintage television up close and personal before is perfectly normal. Thats what you- and anyone else in the house- has to live with if you want to use a tv set of that era. You should hear the frequency vary considerably in pitch as you turn the horizontal hold control. If you set the control about mid position that should in theory be about right. The 'whistle' can sound quite penetrating! Some makes/models of set were louder than others.

Like me you probably grew up watching 625-line tv sets in the 1970s/80s/90s where the frequency is much higher and hardly noticeable, but it is still there.
