Default Hacker Gondolier GP42 cartridge change.

Currently it has a GP96-1 cartridge fitted.
Will a GP93-1 cartridge be a straight swop and play stereo vinyl?

Thanks for any advice?

Yes, but you might find that all you need is a new stylus. That was my experience recently with a Hacker GP42. The GP-x range all seem to have the same one. Certainly GP93 and GP96.

It will play stereo, but depending on what turntable and arm you have fitted, it might be a bit hard on valuable vinyl. It will play stereo vinyl, but use your discretion. You will need a separate amp to hear the stereo of course.

Why do you need you need to change the cartridge?
The GP96-1 is a later and superior cartridge with lower compliance.
It is perfectly matched to the Hacker amplifier.
Fitting a GP93 would be a retrograde move.

The GP96-1 cartridge fitted is now u/s and I have a NOS never used GP93-1 cartridge which was a spare for another deck. I thought it best to use the cartridge I have which has never been used than to attempt to find and purchase a GP96-1 cartridge that is probably been used and is now circa 45/50 years old.

Thanks, OK I understand more now. Yes, go ahead and use the GP93.

It's a full Stereo cartridge, introduced about 3 years earlier and may have slightly more output than the GP96-1. Just bear in mind that the amplifier in your GP42 was not designed to be used with a GP93. You may need to increase the tracking weight to 5 grams.

Changeover now completed, tracking weight set to 5 grams, works a treat...Very pleased to have the Hacker back on song ....
A big ‘Thank you’ to ‘Edward Huggins’ and ‘qualityten’ for your advice.
