Default Valve identification

I ended up with a large haul of valves from a house clearance.

I've been going through them and making a spreadsheet. A few valves have lost their markings, so I wonder if any valve guru here could attempt a spot diagnosis. If not, it doesn't matter too much.

Valve 1 is quite particular. It contains multicoloured wires and 12 pins and is marked GS 105 (I think) but Google isn't any help. It looks like a magic eye of sorts, or maybe it's for TV?

Valve 2 is by Raytheon and looks like a half wave rectifier to me. No other markings visible, and Google again wasn't particularly helpful

Valve 3 is a Solus. It is marked B02 A or 302 A of something similar. No hits on Google either

I'll stop here for now

Thanks for your contributions

The one with the load of wires is a 'Dekatron' counter tube - used in things like school/collegr Geiger-counters.

See here: http://www.r-type.org/articles/art-132.htm

Basically, there was a glow-discharge sustained between one of the wires and a central electrode; when a pulse was applied to one of the intermediate wires the glow 'stepped round' to the next wire in the ring to increase the count.

Similar things were used in some 1950s computer timing/clock/synchronisation to generate predictable delays and division-ratios.

Oh yes thank you both.
That's awesome! I think valve 1 is a GS10D or 10E by ETL

The Dekatron might be a GS10C or D or a close relative:

http://www.r-type.org/inx/inx00366.htm

?

The Solus might be a TV valve:

http://www.r-type.org/exhib/abd0015.htm

?

Lawrence.

"Solus" were one of the importers/rebranders of valves from Eastern Europe back in the 50s and 60s [along with brands such as Pinnacle] who kept the TV-repair industry supplied with valves after the big manufacturers like Mullard, Philips, Brimar pulled out of the consuner-valves market.

Whilst were on topic of rebranded valves, check out valve 4, branded RTRA with no other discernable markings

That looks like a TV line scan efficiency diode possibly a PY88 or similar:

Never heard of them myself either, but then I never worked on TVs.

I'll add a few more in a few days. Many thanks to all the contributors.

It later combined with the E.A.A. to become the RETRA, Radio, Electrical, TV Retailers Association. I was a member from May 1974-2003. Scan of my membership number 9148. They often did deals with manufacturers, buying groups etc for their members. I was not aware of their valve brand but had very good suppliers of valves so would not have needed the facility. John.

Valve 1 - a dekatron to me!

And Valve 4 - a TV booster diode.

(As has already been said, for both).

Valve 2 possibly a 35Z5G, these had a tap part-way along the heater for dial lamp shunting, a clever/weird/devious way of keeping the radio going if the lamp failed in a series-string arrangement. Made for the US market with AA5s in mind. There were also other similar rectifiers with a range of heater voltages but the 35V version was widespread

On the triode pentode (?) Solus valve, there looks to be a Mullard / Philips Blackburn code. Can you see 2 or 3 letters / numbers above the ''B8F'' ?

Do you want the valve to go with the certificate? You can have it for cost of postage only , considering the historical relevance to you
