Default Bush TV22

Hello everybody
Yes I have pulled out my TV22 mainly in anticipation of The British Heritage television chaps. They are making great progress and and I am fortunate to perhaps be in range.
Anyway it still works but I think it needs a new PZ30.
On closer examination wires are cracking.
Any suggestions suppliers of silicon wires please?
Should have bought NVCF.
Simon

Found silicone sleeving to be better option as only one end needs to be disturbed, cut affected wire, crumble or slide off old rubber, then twist the multi strand conductor in your fingers to make solid. The silicone sleeve can be slid over the conductor. Re solder wire.

Why does it need a PZ30 ?

Thank you Steve.
Hadn't considered that.
Certainly didn't want reels of wire I am not likely to use.

The sets gone a bit hummy. R28 a 38R got hot. I never had a new PZ30 to put in at the time.

For my fellow persons working on TV22.
I have now done the Red/Green wires on the dropper selection.
Also I received a new PZ30 today.
What a difference.
It was getting hummy. Volume at minimum.
Now it is silent with a NOS PZ30.

The PZ30 lives a hard life in the TV22, one half is the boost diode.
All three of my sets have been fitted with NOS PZ30's.
Fitting a new EY51 EHT rectifier is also a good idea.

Alas some hum is back.
So I purchased from BVWS a 60/250U @ 350V
Wound a few turns of self-amalgamating tape so as to stuff it out and fit where the original cap lives.
Works a treat. I recommend if you don't want to restuff capacitors etc.

Looks good. I must admit I was a bit doubtful that the PZ30 was causing hum .Rectifiers rarely do this unless one half of a full wave rectifier has failed. As Mark mentioned the PZ30 was often employed as a boost/damper + HT rectifier in a half wave circuit so this would not apply. They were once a big problem with the very early versions used in the Ekco TS88 and Bush TV12 but with Mullard mods turned into a very reliable valve. John.

Yes John.
It was wishful thinking. A new PZ30 seemed to help a tad. It was on its original.
The smoother electrolytic did the business.
Now ready to sell on. I am torn. I do not use the set and when gone the Aurora can go. Not a collector. No more 405. But it is working so well!
It has a CRM93 after the Mullard met with an unfortunate incident.
It is quite well restored. Perhaps not to Mr Ostlers or Dr Holdens standard but I think not bad.

Sorry to learn of your departure from 'proper' tv. You may 'be back' as they say. Regards, John.

Oh dear John
Feeling guilty now.
My wife reminds me she bought the TV22 from Dunsters antiques Staines.
I had a look first. "can I take the back off"? I asked.
The chap said why? It will never work again. Just wanted to make sure all parts present.
Paid £40

Indeed. The picture is lovely. You may never get another one like it and come to regret selling it on.

I once sold 2 Wireless Set 19,s, inc 1 that was working , with all accessories for both inc the baseboard , alone worth £350. The lot went for £100!

Todays value would be £2K plus, the one I have now cost me £400 without all the above.

Dont live to regret it, yes, I was skint at the time I admit.

Thanks for the kick everybody.
Yes a general look around says you would not get a return on time and money spent on it. I am keeping the set.
It is working very well and so it will get used and I do await the heritage tv persons efforts.

Not sure what frequency they will be on. 45MHz but they are battling the military and Ofcom??
