When not having its picture taken it does, of course, do its work invisibly beneath the duvet. I think it's cheaper to run than a cat, though perhaps less companionable.

The patent for the original Rothermal device from 1944 https://worldwide.espacenet.com/pate...led_by=epo.org although it shows a cylindrical case, not the hot water bottle shape

How hot do you want it to get?

You could install a heat pad inside it. We have one behind our bathroom mirror and it gets notably warm to the touch.
