Default Everay violet ray electro-therapy thingy

It worked but weakly when I recently got it but I noticed some very clean wax had escaped from the capacitor. Replaced the capacitor and I now get a pretty strong spark+ozone out of it giving an initial jolt but not much current.

Anyone got one of these as I wondered what they normally behave like as the replacement 2kV capacitor might be a bit too efficient.

I'm not sure how to go about comparing one with another when they're in different places in the possession of different people.

I'd think it's more about the tension than the current. Do you have way to measure voltages in the kV range?

It jumps about 12mm from a flat surface of the glass instrument so probably 30-40KV.

I'll dig mine out and see what spark I can draw from it for comparison.

What was it for?

I mean, what was it's intended use? Some sort of medical electro-therapy that doctors believed was effective a long time ago?

Any chance of a picture of it, please?

Don't experiment with these if you have any sort of heart condition.

... or the donor is a beneficiary in your will!

Actually, in most cases other than as described by Paul, these are relatively benign, because the high frequency at which they work.

And no, I haven't forgotten that I said I would dig mine out to see what sort of spark I can draw.
