Default Bell RTT 56B not dialling out

Hi all,

I have recently acquired a Bell RTT 56B which when plugged in to my phone line is receiving calls without any issues. However when dialling out, the dial tone is heard after selecting each number so there doesn't seem to be any 'memory' of which numbers I have inputted. So therefore it cannot dial out.

Would anyone here have any suggestions as to how to remedy this?

Many thanks,
Olly

Is your telephone line capable of accepting 'pulse dialling' ? BT lines are currently OK but some other providers are DTMF ('TouchTone') dialling only

Do you have any other "pulse" dialling phones that work on your line?

Is your phone line one of the new "fully unbundled" ones, from Sky or Talktalk?

If you just remove and tape the orange wire from the dial in one end, you should hear loud clicks in the receiver when you are dialing. If you do so, your line does probably not understand rotary dials, and you may need a pulse to tone converter like dialgizmo

You can also eliminate the dial itself by attempting to tap the digits out on the receiver rest. It takes a little practice but it's a skill some of us acquired as children.

Be very careful if doing this. It's all to easy to tap out the 112 emergency number in error.

If the problem is that loop disconnect (pulse) dialling isn't supported, I would second DSK's suggestion of a Dialgizmo. This simply sits between the telephone and the line, converting the pulses it receives into DTMF tones. As it uses RJ11 connectors, you will need appropriate adaptors fore and aft - such as this one between the line and the Dialgizmo and this one between the Dialgizmo and the 'phone. These are simply examples. I have no connection with sellers.
