Default Akai 4000DS MK2 Motor Noise

Hi All

I have been working on an Akai DS4000DS this week and its now working very well after a good clean and light lubrication. The only remaining issue is that the motor is a bit noisier than I would like and certainly more so than my Sony TC377. Its not awful but can be noticed above quiet pieces of music so I would like to try and improve matters. On my Sony a drop of light synthetic oil in the designated holes on the motor helped no end, but I cant see how to lubricate the motor on the Akai. I have the service manual and it makes no mention of lubrication points so any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I do not know if the 4000DS motor is the same as the 4000D motor, but the 4000D Service Manual has some motor lubrication info as per attachments.

Yes David, I took out the motor assembly and applied some synthetic oil to points on the front of the motor and behind the small plate on the rear. I also noticed that the front silver plate was slightly bent (could have happened when the unit was in transit) and I gently straightened it. I have been using the player most days and its working really well. I am not 100% sure if its as good as my Sony TC377 but its certainly not far off!
