Default Simplex bracket. Lamp?

I wonder if anyone can identify this for me, to see if there's another part I should be looking for, or whether I should offer it to the needy in the appropriate thread.

I'm guessing it's a lampshade mounting bracket, but don't know the model.

If it is part of a lamp there would be a glass ball with a thread that screws into the base you have found.

It looks to me as though it is intended to be mounted onto a standard circular conduit box via the two keyhold holes, or possibly with wood-screws onto a timber surface.
And the lampshade would have a coarse thread to screw onto the internal thread on the mounting box.

May I suggest that the manufacturer of this is “Dimplex” rather than “simplex”?

I thought that, but don't they only make heaters etc?

I would guess that this is a 'Dimplex' item, and probably part of an infra-red electric heater.
A round ceiling type, probably.

Well, it's definitely 'Simplex'. I brushed the dust off before taking photos and it turned out half of the label was unattached! I'm sorry for that lack of clarity - I didn't notice until I saw some of the bits on the floor.

I was reading about some of their lighting products and recalled some from the 1960s 'temporary' buildings at school. I've asked for an eye to be kept open for a coarse threaded globe, just in case it's not broken.

The trouble with sorting out someone else's 'might come in handy' effects is that it's never possible to know if the half one has is all that remains, or if the other half will turn up after the first has been disposed of.

It looks like it could be the top of one of those enamelled steel industrial downlighters (usually flattish shape, white on the inside and green on the outside) If so there would have also been a weatherproof cap.

Just had a surf--the aptly named 'skinflint design' are asking £275 GBP for a complete simplex downlighter !
