Ok, I've got it now, was wrong about the BNC, should have looked closer.

No problem, there was a schematic shown on here some years ago where the diode was shown at the other end of the cable.

It was a homebrew job if I remember correctly.

Yea, In the original design of this circuit the diode is inside a length of thin brass pipe which serves as the probe tip, This is then covered by a slightly wider pipe which is grounded and directly attached to the PCB.


The circuit has a massive amount of gain and tends to screech at high volume with no input signal. But the design has a gain switch. Other than the above i'm happy with it. It'll do what i need it to do.
