Default JVC HR3330 Head Drum PU31332G vs PU31332D

Does anyone know if a PU31332G is a suitable replacement for the original part PU31332D? Donberg only have two flavours of the PU31332G available.

There is a guide here to upper drums used in Ferguson machines which were clones of JVC models. The equivalent to your machine can be found on this site.

From the list of heads for Ferguson models, it would seem that the 'D' suffix was replaced by a 'G' suffix part number mid-production of the Ferguson 3V00 model with a modification kit required. I'm guessing it will be the same situation for the equivalent JVC HR-3330 but of course I can't use the Ferguson serial numbers as a guide. I wonder what the modification kit consisted of? My initial worry was that the 'D' and 'G' suffixes might indicate some TV standard compatibility differences e.g. PAL vs NTSC but it seems that is not the case.

Hello. It seems that the PU3132-G10 is the head to go for.
Donberg code 10000

Without having access to all the data, I think that the JVC HR-3330 is a machine that did not have a Still Picture, only a Pause function.
The originally fitted heads had both the A head, and the B head with 59 micron head height.
(not suitable for a still picture) Later models with a Still function had heads that had the B head of 79 microns height.

The later type head will work on both machines, those with still picture, and pause function only.

Example. If you had for instance a National NV-8600, (pause mode only) and fitted the head from a NV-8610, (still mode) then disabled the video mute, in the pause mode, then you would then have a still picture feature.

Hope this helps.

Wayne.

Thanks Wayne, That's very helpful. I'll go ahead and order the G10 one.

Hi hillsrob.
How did it go with the new head?

For the information of all. I found that I had the service manual for the Australian version.
HR-3330EA The part No. listed in the manual is PU 31332G-10 The same as the replacement Head that I suggested from Donberg. Even with the service manual it is not clear if this machine has a still picture, or simply just a tape pause.

Good luck.

Wayne.

Hello Wayne.

I would like to find a Panasonic NV8610, I remember working on those the heads that were the same as the NV333, which was a favourite of mine. I used to purchase several and restore and sell and also the Ferguson 3V29/3V30. I would also like to get a 3V16 or JVC3660. I have got three Sony SL-HF950's and another favourite was the Sony SL-C9's, getting rare now.
