Aren't you being a little modest, David? 405-line colour counts too! Forgive me if I'm misinformed, but what about the original British NTSC colour set you've restored?

Yes, I too noticed that it seemed to be missing from the list.

Hi Steve,
Yes, the famous Pye 405 line colour TV set is in the shop. NTSC type colour signals provided by the special Aurora SCRF converter.

Also in my collection three 1960s transistor TV sets. 1960/61 Pye TT1. 1963 Perdio Portorama and a dual standard Philips TVette made in 1966.

Ah, that's more like it!

Are the transistor sets above working? I won't blame you if not!

Any working pre-war?

Hi Steve,
The Pye and the TVette are working but the Portorama has developed a fault, possibly the video output transistor has failed.

Pre-war sets. HMV 900, 901, 902 and 904. Marconi 702 and 707. Cossor 54 and 137T. Plus a few others.

You're a 405 pioneer... developed the first 'home' standards converter? How do you supply the signal in your shop today?

Hi Steve,
The standards converter I built in 1985 is still in existence and is in the safe keeping of another Forum member.
Another converter was built in 1990 but is just a tidied up version of the original.
Link to a topic about the converter in 2012: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ad.php?t=73397

I have the first Aurora converter that Darryl made in 2006. A very useful device because it produces from a 625 line source all the TV standards from the 1920s up to the 819 line system. A separate modulator is required.

Two Ekco pre-war TVs. Vision only receiver model TA201 and the sound and vision receiver model TS701.

I have about a dozen sets, two of which have the sound not working. No dual-standards, though.
Converters are Aurora and the last Domino.
I used to have a PYE converter.
All are in Co. Durham.

Hi.

It seems clear that the great dual-standard survivors are the Sony TV9-90UK, Philips TVette and the BRC 1400. Most of this must be due to the LOPT's reliability.
Unusually for a Philips TV of this era, the TVette's LOPT has proven to be quite reliable including the DY51 EHT rectifier valve.

Symon

Hi Peter,
The Cossor CRT has a intermittent connection on it's base and unfortunately the only way it can be fixed the tube will have to taken out again.
The tube can be lifted out easily enough but it can be a tricky task refitting it.

That's right, it's fortunate I have the T23 because many of the wooden parts in the T5 are in such a bad state it will be impossible to take accurate measurements. For example the cabinet floor. That part has just turned to dust, So while the tube is out the T23 that set can used to assist with the reconstruction of the T5.

Thanks for making the supreme effort, John... and I mean just in listing them! I shudder to think about the amount of servicing work they must represent.

Anyway, single-handedly you've just increased the total (so far) by 50%.

It's becoming clear this 405-line television hobby is much, much bigger than I had imagined. Quite humbling really.

Steve
