Default Philips cassette deck

This is one of two saved from the skip , gen clean and service got it working , but what is the strange tx on the din input , looks like these were xwd cassettes . Mick.

How is the tx wired?

Audio isolation transformer? Perhaps the machines were used on phone circuits.

My guess: eX War Department.

Edit: sorry, I see VR got there first.

Maybe the intention was to convert the input from unbalanced to balanced, and / or to some specifically required input impedance?
