Off topic slightly, but recently I obtained a large quantity of Beta hifi recordings made from 1985-1993 plus the vcr they were recorded on. All that I've checked so far seem to have no sound deterioration whatsoever and they sound fantastic.
VHS hifi, on the other hand, I've got recordings made from 1991 onwards and a lot do have problems playing the hifi back. Worst VHS tapes I've found are TDK, Fuji and some earlier Scotch 3M. |

Yes, they are. It's a Panasonic, but I can't recall the model number off hand.

I'd scope the FM from the head preamp and have a look at waveform. might just need tape path adjusting
