Trying to find info on a vintage radio
I am trying to find the make of this radio. It says British made model 765B but I can’t find a make. Any ideas would be welcome. I am hopefully going to try and restore it.

Re: Trying to find info on a vintage radio
Hi,
There's a Mutitone valved 'Deaf Aid Receiver' on Paul Stenning's disc 3. Although it isn't the same model, having 3 front panel controls against 4 on the one pictured above, it may of course share similar circuitry Kind regards Dave |

The one on Paul's DVD-ROM (and at the top right of this page) is an all wave radio (L/M/SW) and 'deaf-aid' amplifier, using nine valves. The line-up is as follows: V1 6K8G V2 6K7G V3 6Q7G V4 6K7G V5 6Q7G V6 6F6G V7 6F6G V8 5Z4G V9 EM34 (Magic Eye). It's quite a complex set with a powerful push-pull audio stage. In some respects, a rather curious set which no doubt fulfilled a need, and I dare say would be been costly to buy. When switched to the 'hearing aid' amplifier position, the frequency changer and IF stages are disconnected, as is the magic eye. In that position, V4 is a microphone amplifier for a crystal mike. Your set might be nothing like that one of course when you take a peep inside, but it's the only Multitone set listed. Hope that might help a bit.

Re: Trying to find info on a vintage radio
Thanks for all the replies above. I’ve had a look inside and attach a few photos of the setup. Only 5 valves in there I’m afraid. I hope to get the whole chassis removed and cleaned up to see if there are any clues as to the make etc.

There might be a date on that aluminium capacitor at the back?

Re: Trying to find info on a vintage radio
There might be a clue on the dial glass.
Sometimes there is small text or a part number printed onto the glass to identify the artwork. You may need to remove the chassis from the case to see it. |
