Default Forum search function

The website's Google search function doesn't seem to be working. Is it just me?

I don't know what's happening then. To test, I put "Mullard" in the search box, and just got a blank page with "2020 Google" at the top... Anyone know what I'm doing wrong - should get dozens of results for a search like that. "Search" has always worked for me in the past - I'm baffled!

Sorry I can't help with any suggestions as to why it doesn't work for you but I've just done the same "Mullard" test and get 8020 results over 10 pages.

On the Work Windows 7 computer, it has never worked with Internet Explorer, but does with Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Working fine for me too (Firefox, Windows 10).

You can always use the forum's built-in search at https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/search.php although this is not as flexible as the Google one, hence providing both options.

Wow, I've never noticed that before, Paul, quietly sitting there at the top of each page

The main issue with the built-in one is that it is minimum 4 character words (due to the database index configuration) which means that words we may want to use like "HMV", "Pye", "BSR", "GEC", "RGD" and "PX4 can't be included. The Google one doesn't have that restriction.

I’ve found the problem, I think. I can restore the website search function by disabling my ad blocker - AdBlocker Ultimate. Problem returns if I re-enable it. This has never happened before yesterday. Are those b*****s at Google up to something?
I won’t be using the forum’s search function again until I find a way of stopping this behaviour. Is anyone else experiencing it?
Mike

Sorry, hadn't seen Paul's Post 10. Will give that a go.

If I want to google something ( In windows 10 ) I just open a new private window and use that

I use Adblock Plus which doesn't cause any issues. It actually gets rid of the "sponsored results" in Google which is a good thing.

It is probably an issue with Adblocker Ultimate which you should report to them.

Thank you for explaining why sometimes a search returns no results. I hadn't spotted the common factor of searches under four characters.

The other issue with the built-in search seems to be that searches with more than one word seem to return all hits with any one of the words rather than only those with all of them.

Effective searching is a subject in it's own right, but the immediate issue is solved (overenthusiastic ad blocking performance)
