Re: Fixing a GEC BT 330 Television
I said to bridge F2 fuseholder because I assumed it was the blown fuse you mentioned back in post #1.
You MAY have to bridge the contacts of the mains switch ie S1 and S2 if they test open circuit. Don't bridge L and N or there'll be a big bang should you plug the set in.

Re: Fixing a GEC BT 330 Television
Hi!
Servicing articles for your chassis are here:– https://www.americanradiohistory.com...on-1972-01.pdf https://www.americanradiohistory.com...on-1972-02.pdf . . . altho' the articles are entitled "BT302 Series" all the circuit references, valve types, etc., are the same as your set! If you're not getting any of the valves lighting I would switch off the set, unplug it from the mains and begin by measuring across the plug pins for a continuity reading, which should be about 150–250 ohms with all the valves cold. No readings could be a blown fuse, a section of the "mains tapping unit" open circuit, or a valve with an open–circuit heater, and I should make you aware the receiver valves, which are Z329 or 30F5, have 7.3V 0.3A heaters and these valves did have a nasty tendency to be unreliable with regular heater failures, so do check all of these for continuity between pins 4 and 5. Fuse–blowing at switch–on may be the mains filter capacitor, or if you've removed this, a short across the h.t. line, very tricky to find unless you're experienced with TV faults! Chris Williams

Quote:
For testing purposes WITH NO MAINS POWER APPLIED you can fit any good fuse you like, or even bridge out the fuseholder. The same applies to the fuse in the mains plug.

Re: Fixing a GEC BT 330 Television
NO!. Do not apply power at present.
Let's take this in very small steps. Test F2 and the fuse in the mains plug and come back with the results.

Hi when you get a chance to change more capacitors, you might want to replace the black Hunt ones as they will be pretty terrible by now.

Re: Fixing a GEC BT 330 Television
At some point.
Best to replace the ones likely to cause damage/burn ups then head for first light (some sort of raster displayed) and take it from there. No point in spending lot's of time effort money etc then switch on only to find an unrepairable/unobtainable part is duff such as a transformer or CRT. Lawrence. |
