Default Lost sound on JVC HR-D110 (3V38)

Hello everyone. So I bought this VCR a few months ago "for parts" and it was working great until yesterday. So, while I was copying some Betamax tapes with this machine, suddenly the audio stopped recording. I still get audio through EE signal on both RF and line inputs. But it doesn't record or play any sound (Tried good pre-recorded tapes)! I opened the bottom cover of the machine up to check the Audio/Servo/Mechacon board. On the audio circuit, next to the main Sanyo IC and the connector of the audio/control head, there's a 22uF 16V cap that looks like it's leaking and has corroded the PCB. Any suggestions? Should I replace this capacitor and it will good to go?

Thanks in advance.

Fivos

Replace the cap and as a precaution run some bridges from and to good points on the board. Is this the multi lingual machine you spoke of? If not I have a good bottom board from a 3v38 here.

Thanks for your answer. If you mean multi system, no it's a PAL/SECAM machine with German front panel buttons and VFD display. It appears to have the same part number as the service manual says. I don't think a PCB swap is needed though. I will check for continuity on the damaged traces.

Yeah couldn't remember the correct term haha, il keep it for a while incase you're stuck. Being the sound board I'd imagine it would be the same, the video board as we spoke about will of course be different.

Should it turn out to be the audio control head that's at fault I have that here too.

Carefully scrape as much of that brown glue off as you can. It tends to go conductive when it turns that colour.

Yes. The video board board and tuner/modulator are different but the audio is the same. However, most of the times when you change a whole board, a servo adjustment is needed.

Yes. I thought of that stupid glue too. How can I scrape it? Is a flat screwdriver and isopropyl alcohol safe?

Should be fine; ideally a plastic tool and obviously great care must be taken not to accidentally scrape off the PCB tracks!

I would probably stick to removing it where there's components soldered and then maybe flux and reflow to burn any excess away. Giving it the once-over with a small brush to leave it nice and shiny.
