Default Hooking up a JVC TM-91SU 9" TV to a DVD Player.

I'm trying to hook up a TV I'vE just bought to a DVD player and I know that these two technologies have a pretty big gap in technology and so far I haven't found a way to hook them up. That's why I was wondering if anyone had any ideas how I could over come this.

On the back of my TV it only has video in/out, audio in/out, VT slot and a Y/C 358 slot. So far I've searched the internet for some kind of AV or SCART cable that has an end into one of these and so far nothing. The video in/out seems to have a weird pin to it, it's not like the audio which has a normal round hole. The video has a slit instead.

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated as I'm reaching my wit's end with this.

I believe this is a monitor rather than a TV and uses BNC connections.

A picture of the connections would help.

The Brochure is here, BNC for video, RCA (Phono) for audio.

A lead like this should do the job:-

Thank you so much for the fast responses, the fact that i've even got a response is amazing. I've taken a picture of the back of the monitor to give a little bit more detail. Would the cable you recommended still be okay?

You can also buy BNC-phono adapters, but at £2 for the complete Maplin cable it's not worth bothering about.

Hi - just a word of caution - TM-91SU appears to be 525 line NTSC if this is the actual model you have - otherwise connection as advised is correct

The only problem you'll have is that the output from you DVD player will be stereo and the monitor can only handle mono. You'll need to accept the fact you'll only hear one channel or combine the two channels. I believe 'Y' connectors with two RCA sockets and one RCA plug are available.

Thanks guys, I've ordered the maplin cable now and also a step down converter for the plug, as I plugged in my other jvc t.v which is exactly the same and didn't realise the voltage difference is a lot higher from the mains in the UK from USA until it was too late. just out of curiosity how would I go about getting my other T.V fixed? It powered on for a second before something blew i'm guessing and since the plug I don't think has a fuse I'm guessing ti might have been a resistor inside.

I'll let you know when the cable comes as well as the step down converter as to if the dvd player works with the T.V.

Thanks for all the messages guys, thought I was going to struggle with this for weeks with no answers

Hi - you have confirmed that monitor is NTSC - you will have to ensure that DVD player is set to output NTSC. As regards the other 'TV' it may have an internal fuse if you are lucky otherwise significant damage may have been caused
Best of luck - John

Hey guys I linked up the Monitor to the DVD player and it seemed to connect fine, only problem is that the picture is black and white and i can't seem to find a way to set it to colour, even when I use the manual inputs on the monitor itself. I was wondering if this was the type of cable i was using or the DVD player. I've tried it with another exactly the same monitor and also a panasonic monitor and both output B&W.

Do you guys have any advice, kinda stuck. Also thanks for the help so far, if you need pictures don't hesitate to ask

Have you set your DVD player to output NTSC? The default in the UK is PAL.

Ahh maybe that was the problem, i'll give that a try and let you guys know if it helps

How do I go about changing the output, is it as simple as searching in the options menu or does it have to be a certain type of DVD player?

It'll be a menu option somewhere. Some DVD players don't have the ability to output NTSC. That's why you used to be able to get PAL to NTSC convertors. I may have one laying around somewhere.

Got it sorted! Thank you for all the help. The only problem now is the display is a bit off, but I'm guessing thats only because of the way I encoded the DVD so I'm sure that's ad easy fix.

Thanks again.

I tried this monitor and the JVC and both work fine.
