Default GEC 9 Inch TV

Over the weekend Just purchased a GEC 9 inch TV, not too sure of what state it is in though all I know at this stage is the cabinet has louvres at either end with the screen one end and LS the other from what I have seen of it in a photograph Model number not known but will put some pictures and more info when the set is delivered next week.

Regards

Ken

If it is the model BT7092 you've found a very interesting and rare set.

Hello Mike and DFWB

Yes it is the BT7092, had a look in Radio / TV service books but could not find circuit diagram or any detail on it. So now looking for the diagram at least, perhaps one of the members has it. Looks like an exciting project to do for the coming months.

This receiver derives it's EHT from the mains supply and is lethal. Take very great care when handling particularly chassis stability on the bench. With this model it is very easy to come into contact with it. The U16/U33 top cap can poke you in the face. You need to know what you are doing with it and the dangers prevailing. J.

Thank you John for the advice on the lethal side and the dangers that prevail, I will put some more info on this thread as it progresses. And thanks Mike T for direction of the circuit.

Best wishes

Hi folks

Here is a picture of the GEC BT7092, it was delivered to me but what a weight this thing weighs 6.4 stone, made me back ache a bit, I will have to enlist some help to get it on to a suitable table, I believe the set was originally sold by Nicholls Radio and Television which used to be down Braintree High Street but sadly another well established family business long gone.

Best wishes

Ken

I have the console version of this set, the BT7094. It's an ugly bu**er - no sign of design on the cabinet side! It uses exactly the same 3 piece chassis but whereas in the table model, two wings are bolted either side of the main chassis, the two wings are removed to the base of the cabinet and joined by a bridge which carries the umbilical cable termination tags (lots of them).
You're lucky to find a BT7092, Ken. I've been looking for one for about 10 years. Good luck with it - they are pretty crowded under the chassis

Hi Brian,
I have one of those ugly sets. Been in the shop over thirty years, Someday I will make a start on the electronic restoration, I know for starters the CRT is broken. Did the cabinet work in 1985.

You may get a bit of one Brian. Maybe a control knob or an obscure mains input plug.. John.

Thanks fellow restorers, its nice to know that there are people around who care for this stuff, just a matter of taking my time and getting someone to help me lift it onto the bench from the floor, hurt me back when I carried it in doors. I don't know where to get something that will replace the broken louver though but that's another job.

Regards

Ken

Hi Ken,

I have a manufacturer's manual somewhere. I will look it out next time I am at my parents' place which should be in the next week or so.
Regarding louvers, there is a radio only version in a similar cabinet, which is a lot more common than the TV that you have. You could even buy a radio which has several louvers missing (hence not valuable) as you only need one.

I think that with both the radio and the television the temptation is to pick them up by the louvers and as the sets are quite heavy, the louvers are easily broken.

A great find.

Cheers
Andy

That bears a strong resemblance to a GEC4750 radio. You almost expect it to have stereo speakers.

I don't suppose the broken louvre has been tucked in behind, you picture shows something is behind.

Hello BrianC,

I also have a BT7094 console version of one of these that has a duff EHT TX. I stripped the EHT windings off and used the TX for all the other supplies. I managed to cobble together an external EHT TX which works, but is messy !!
So my question is........ does your power supply chassis have the EHT TX and if so, would you consider passing on to me for a price of your choosing (as long as it's not going to break the Bank!!).

Cheers,
Alan.

Cheers Andy about the manual, look forward to that. And yes Stephen it does give the impression of stereo. I get the impression that a few of you would dearly love to get your hands on my set ha,ha. but wait patiently, you will all see the result of a splendid instrument.

Best wishes

Ken
