Expensive or hard to find Sony VCR deck gears (SLV-315 circa 1991\1992)
Hi all.
I've been fiddling around with a Sony VCR from around 1992 and found that the infamous 3-736-147-01 gear that use to break all the time was infact broken, so i ordered one and replaced it, so far so good. This is the gear 3-736-147-01 Problem was that after i replaced it and lubbed the most critical parts on this deck i found more broken or slightly damaged parts which are the following: 3-736-177-01 3-736-176-01 3-736-143-01 For the first two, i'm able to find them at the Donberg Electronic parts site. Not cheap but not incredibly expensive either. The problem is the 3-736-143-01 gear which costs the quadruple or more on this site, and either are not exactly cheaper on other sites or they are out of stock. I was able to find it here http://home.earthlink.net/~epcs/id.gear.htm# for a reasonable price but something is fishy, when i'm going to pay it only asks for the part price, not shipping costs no nothing and i'm not really sure if this is trustable. Anyone here kind enough to point me this part on a well know and respectable site and that doesn't cost an arm and a leg ? Thanks in advance |

They have a phone number, so you could call them to see if they seem like a real outfit: http://home.earthlink.net/~epcs/contact.htm

Well, making a phone call to the U.S. wasn't really in my plans. Although ironically i might be getting the parts from a youtuber from U.S.
Let's see how it goes! |

There are usually a few Sony of this vintage on segundamano.es. A lot closer that the US!

Hi libratron. That's the gear i replaced, and after that i discovered that those 3 parts were also in fact broken.
Ben, thank you for the link, i'm going to take a look at it and make a decision after i get the offer from the american youtuber. I'm guessing that for the money i'll need to pay him of any site for that matter i should rather buy a broken Sony VCR and take parts from it. |

That's one thing I've noticed with the later Sony vcrs BETA and VHS they always seem to suffer with broken plastic gears.
Amazingly the Sanyo units I work on too (both formats) NEVER suffer like that, usually just stretched or cracked belt's. ...Kevin |
