Default Radio Rentals ID

Can anyone identify this RR cabinet TV from around 1953?

Thanks.

A photo of the chassis would help us to identify your set.

I don't think that's the one. The control panel is the dead giveaway, but the speaker and doors are a bit wrong.

The Radio Rentals set which is the subject of this topic will almost certainly be a rebranded MRG model. I believe Radio rentals acquired the "Mains Radio Grams" concern sometime in the early fifties. Later on the MRG sets were rebranded by RR as "Baird". The MRG brand continued to be marketed as sets sold by independent TV retailers.
I hope I've got these facts right.
Check out an earlier post about another RR Television set: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...MRG+television

It all came flooding back! It's been many years since I have seen the internals of an 'MRG'.
The tuner is the giveaway with the three rows of adjustments on the side and the Paxolin panel along the back of the chassis. The Mullard MW36-24 looks original.
Where do all these old receivers come from? John.

At a guess, people who still remember what they paid for the sets in the first place preferred to put them into indefinite storage as opposed to just throwing them away.

A lot of sets that have come my way were discovered stashed away in lofts, it was quite common to stash away an old working set when it was replaced with a newer model, 'Just in case'.

I have three Pye sets that came from the same house, the earliest was a B18T from 1948. This was replaced by a V14 from 1955, followed by a mid 60's dual standard set. Presumably this was replaced by a colour set in the mid 70's?

Sorry, lost my log in details, thanks for responding. I thought this was a Baird set, I remember my father saying so but I bow to your superior knowledge. This set was in my late mother's front room for 50 years, my father had said it would make a wonderful cocktail cabinet but neither of them drank alcohol!

That has turned out to be a real blessing, so many of these old set's had their innards removed and the cabinet used for other purposes.
I hope you will keep the set as it is, or restore it to working order.
