Default JVC HR-3330TR/Ferguson 3V00, 16, 22??

Good morning everyone! So someone gave me the chance to buy an early JVC VCR model HR-3330TR for 30 euro from him and want to ask some questions. First of all, what is the Ferguson Videostar equivalent? Secondly, is this a multi system (PAL/SECAM/NTSC) machine since it has a "TR" model suffix? And lastly, Is the belt and rubber kit the same as the original HR-3300? The guy told me that nothing works (Play, ff or rew) and I would love to have one of these tanks and fix it myself!
Thank you

Fivos

I used to have a JVC HR-3330TR , but that was 25 years ago.

From what I can remember, it is a multi-system VHS machine which can play and record both PAL and SECAM , and can play but cannot record NTSC. Only SP mode is supported; you cannot play or record any LP or NTSC EP tapes.

It does not convert between TV systems. If you play an NTSC tape, you will need a TV that can display NTSC (and I think the output from the HR-3330TR is NTSC 4.43 instead of 3.58 - your TV will need to support this, otherwise you will only get black and white pictures from NTSC tapes.)

I think this was JVC's first multi-system VHS recorder. Ferguson in the UK did not sell any multi-system recorders like the HR-3330TR so there is no exact equivalent Ferguson model. But the clock on the JVC HR-3330TR looks the same as the Ferguson 3V22 so that's probably the nearest equivalent.

As for the fault "nothing works" (play, FF, etc) the first suspect component is the cassette lamp. Switch on the machine with no tape inside. You should see a light inside the cassette compartment. If not, the bulb has probably failed. To protect the tape from damage, the machine will then not allow any tape transport functions - press any of the keys down and they will pop up again immediately.

You are quite likely to need replacement belts too, of course. I think the belts are the same for all the series of JVC HR-3300 / HR-3330TR / Ferguson 3V00 / 3V16 / 3V22 .

Thank you very much for your reply! When pressing FF or REW, the motor works but the tape doesn't move. Also, the cassette light bulb lights up normally.

There was no Ferguson version of this model but it was imported by Thorn in small numbers during the VCR boom for the rental market. The model number was 8928.
