Default Sony EV-S550E Deck Jammed

I have one of these with the mech jammed and a tape in it. Although I have done many VHS machines including the dreaded panasonic G deck and the 'orrible philips plastic ones but I have never delved into an 8mm before and wonder if anyone on here could give me few pointers so I don't break anything on my first try. Also any stock faults i should be aware of ?

Initially when powered up all the display lights up, you can change channels etc but no deck functions or noises. After a while it got bored and went into standby with just the clock on but could be powered by pressing the power button again.

The mech is fully loaded as in the picture.

I have found the manual with schematics but not the mech.

This mechanism is fearsomely complicated but can, with care and patience, be worked on. All the connectors unplug so it can be removed from the main chassis to be worked on by itself. The threading mechanism can be manually worked from underneath. The cassette carriage is also completely detachable.

Good Luck!!
