Alba T524
I have just purchased an Alba T524 from a charity shop for the princely sum of £10, The set itself appears to be in good condition but the capacitors are original and the focus magnets are chipped. One of the knobs is also missing. The cabinet is a bit scratched and I intend to strip it and re-varnish, I have not tried this before but have read other posts on this site and will give it a go. As this is a console model there is a lot of space in the bottom of the cabinet, I intend to use some of this space to install an old PC running MYTHTV outputting a 405 signal following the instructions on Jim Beacon's website. I will probably use a rf modulator in order to isolate the PC from the live chassis. I will post pictures soon, when I have cleared a large enough space to enable the chassis to be removed from the cabinet.

Re: Alba T524
I have replaced the paper capacitors in the set and reformed the HT electrolytics but still have some hum on the raster. I have not sorted out a signal source yet but have displayed some lines on the screen using mu old AVO all wave signal generator. Fortunately the tube seems OK and the set appears work, now to start on the standards converter I still hope to use PC motherboard and follow the FOTH example, but at the moment I cannot get my DTV card to work with Linux. I may just get Linux running and use the TV as a monitor initially and watch BBC iplayer or DVDs.
Attached are some pictures of the work so far. Dave GW7ONS www.parcgwyn.talktalk.net |
