Mystery item
When sorting out some drawers in a bedroom chest or drawers we came across this new sealed item which is a complete mystery. I never did video recorder repairs, only cassettes and hi-fi. More strange I only kept spares in the workshop, and I've never seen this item before. Does anyone recognise it; not even sure if it is a video deck spare? If it is recognised and of any use to anyone they are most welcome to it. Size around 3" x 4.5".Thanks, Mike.

Re: Mystery item
It certainly does look like the side of a cassette carriage, possibly from an early VCR, but maybe even from a 1970s audio cassette deck.

Re: Mystery item
Thanks Nick. I don't recognise it as anything from a cassette deck but it's strange as I can't really see what it's supposed to do mechanically. Thought someone may recognise it if it's something to do with VCRs Mike.

Re: Mystery item
Perhaps something from the business end of a sewing machine?

Re: Mystery item
Thanks Dave; I did think that myself as we have had loads of sewing machines (wife had her dressmaking business) but we've never bought spares like this.

Re: Mystery item
It looks like a part from a sewing machine as suggested, possibly something to do with the needle guide.....I haven't had much experience with sewing machines but I have had a few apart. Something about it reminds me of the part at the base that the needle passes through and does the stitching..... Maybe when your wife had her dressmaking business, she ordered a part for one of the machines and it was wrong so put in a drawer in case it 'comes in handy'? We've all done it!

Re: Mystery item
From the screws, it's for a Japanese made machine.

Re: Mystery item
Wife thinks she vaguely remembers sending a Brother (Japanese) embroidery machine away (over 20 years ago) to be repaired, but was damaged on the way back and the engineer came out to fix it. He was successful in repairing it but left a part in case it went wrong again.
Sounds like the mystery has been solved; at 75 her memory is not what it used to be LOL. Thanks to all who made suggestions.; especially Sideband and Maarten |

Re: Mystery item
Somebody somewhere is probably looking for that part, which is most likely long obsolete.
I would put it on an online auction site, you never know, it might sell. |

Re: Mystery item
She still has the machine so may possibly need it herself should it need repairing lightning.
