ISOTECK IPS 1810 variable power supply - UK Vintage Radio Repair and Restoration Discussion Forum

Good Afternoon Gents and gentesses, i have the above power supply, it appears to be working ( well sort of), i get a variable voltage and current.
When i attach it to my electronic load it delivers a full 10 amps without any worries ( from the front panel) but on having a grope at the twin heat sinks at the back, one is considerably hotter than t'other.
Ah ha says i, those 3 x 2n3055 ( there are 6 in total) are lazy and not doing their share of the load, i elected to replace all the 3055's, when they turned up 1 had its emitter to case lead rusted almost thru', on the new ones, so i chose 3 others and fitted those, the supply didn't work again, took them out and replaced them with originals and it worked, probable Chinese copies, sent them back for a refund.
Ok so that war and peace over with, Is there anybody out there in radio/electronics land with a circuit diagram/schematic that i can beg borrow purloin a copy of to assist with identifying a possible fault with this item.

Hi Snowy,

RS's Iso-Tech brand tend to be re-badges of GW-Instek products. This link has a use manual download link and may be similar but you may need an older version.

Thanks for that info, it seems to be exactly that model pal.
Still looking for the schematic but i can take the voltages from 1 bank of trannies and compare them with the other.
That may point me in the right direction

Mel, i dropped a bo bo, my meter must be older that what is shown as it has meters rather than displays, otherwise it looks the same, snowy

Hi Snowy,

If you look in the GPR-M series user manual on the link I gave it lists the versions and the analogue display, GPR-1810H, version is probably what you have. The analogue meter version is probably discontinued now but the analogue/digital display versions are probably covered by the same manual. I haven't been able to find a service manual or schematic for download but the Goodwill Instrument Co Ltd in Taiwan may provide a schematic if you contact them.

Thanks for the additional info, yes i did find the metered version as you pointed out once i printed off the manual.
I will drop the goodwill company an email later today.
