No 16 Telephone handset
Hi
Could someone kindly tell me if the GPO skeleton telephone no 16 has a hand set with a press to speak button or whether such a handset would be a reproduction, as I had previously thought? Many thanks Regards Trev |

Re: No 16 Telephone handset
Well the press to speak handsets Ive seen (and have here) are only 2-core, the button switches between the mic and ear. The no16 however has 4 connections for the handset so I'm not sure..my handsets were sourced at different times to the actual phone base.

Have you e-mailed Bob Freshwater? (Google him to find his excellent site) He was very helpful to me once concerning a similar query.

Re: No 16 Telephone handset
The handset used on the Telephone No 16 did use a four-way plaited cord - the handset being known as a "Telephone No 28". Somewhere in my 'archives', I have the GPO drawing for the construction of the cord for the Tele 28 - it was still a 'current' BT drawing 10 years ago when I ordered my copy !! The same handset was used on a number different items of telecoms equipment.
There were other versions of a similar looking handset without the 'Press to Speak' switch - some used four way cords and other used two way cords (usually intercom phones) |
