Default 1958 Fidelity Monarch HF10 record player. Value?

Hi.

I have a somewhat working 1958 Fidelity Radio Monarch HF10 portable record player.
I believe these to be quite rare. Wondered if anyone has an idea as to its value?

Thanks.

No photo supplied so we cannot assess its condition. It's an early model and likely to use a BSR UA8 Autochanger. If this is still fitted with its original Mono-only BSR TC8H cartridge, it will have a very limited appeal as these will damage Stereo LPs. Mono LPs have not beeen pressed for over 50 years.

£5 to £10 I guess as will need restoring but only if the case is in good order.

As mentioned some photos would help particularly if you could take one of the cartridge (the part that rests on the record)
Usually the best prices can be obtained on ebay.,
Welcome by the way!

Nicely styled old thing, I had one a while back which used a UA12 deck and that appears to be the usual type fitted. I'd say up to £50 pre-restoration provided the cabinet looks good.

Thank for these pics. Yes, I have one exactly the same. These feature an 8" Elac speaker driven by a single stage EL84 + EZ80 amplifier and, for what they are, sound very good. Now I can see what it is, I would value it at £50-00 assuming that it's fully working. It is a rare, very well built, early Fidelity. It also has the rather rare BSR UA12 deck. There are 2 downsides, the green platter mat is missing (replicas cost £30-00) and that BSR TC8H Mono-only cartridge prohibits the playing of most LP's on it - unless the user happens to have a large proportion of early Mono LP's in their collection.

It appears to have a twisted mains lead, does it use a mains transformer?

Yes, it does with half-wave rectification.

Not to my knowledge my grandfather swapped it .
It just plugs in and plays.

I think the transformer is for heaters only

Thank you, perhaps my question was too vague.

Very nice.

I don't suppose the instruction leaflet contains a circuit diagram?

Well, it's not quite the same. Yours is the EXTREMELY rare Stereophonic version. This will have a different amplifier, possibly a 2 stage type.

I would have thought the cartridge would be worth around half the value of the record player if fully working. So adding the cost of replacing the rubber platter and cartridge could prove costly. At a guess around £50-60 costs and that's not taking into account any work required on amp. My value would be £10 - £20.
