There we go, a sized drawing. Any takers please? I can even send an actual knurled nut to a maker.

As its now established what's needed perhaps a post in Repair and Restoration Services Wanted may be the way to go.

Cheers

Hi

How about using these?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231999683...0AAOSwZ1BXd4pL

Could use them as they are, or file/grind the hex section off, even cross hatch them.

Depending on your equipment, you could take the hex off by screwing a bit of studding into the nut and putting it in a drill. Then take hex off by rotating against a file, emery cloth, or grinder.
A lot less work than making from scratch.

Richard

PS no direct ebay discussions please as per forum rules.

As mentioned I have those. One thing is is that they bottom out before tightening. I want the real thing!

Ah, sorry missed that.

Why not ask the company selling the ebay item, they may make them for you.

It's an idea, thanks. I'm sure there's 'amateur' model makers out there.

My brother has a lathe and says he could make them, but they wouldn't be cheap as there are a number of tool changes required so it's time consuming.

He suggests the cheapest option could be a visit to the Model Engineer magazine forum where there are likely to be more retired lathe-owners with the time to do it less commercially.

You never know, someone may be quietly having a go on the side without saying anything in case the job's a failure. Worth waiting and watching - just in case.

Indeed. If nothing turns up, I've got those little dome topped hexagonal brass 8BA nuts that will 'do the job', but when you're doing a restoration, some parts, especially exterior cosmetic ones, just look better if they as near as possible to original. Admittedly to a much lesser extent, it's like having the wrong knobs on a set. Am I being over fastidious? not really when you consider that many of us are very concerned with under chassis originality, which is fair enough if that's the level of restoration that a restorer works to. I personally don't go that far.

I have a kit and can send you some if you need them.Metric unfortunately though, a bit modern perhaps.
