Default Sony C9 Distorted Picture and Sound - Help needed

Hi. I'm trying to get my Sony SL-C9UB since I've had since new to work again.
I've played a few recorded films on it and the picture is distorted with lines running across the middle. The sound is also slow and garbled.
I've cleaned the heads, but don't know where to go from here. Any Suggestions would be most welcome.

I've put a short 30 sec. video on YouTube here if that helps

Andy

Hello and welcome.
It looks like the tape isn't running at the right speed so the servos can't lock. The most likely cause of this is drag on the tape path. You've cleaned the heads, but you need to look at the lower drum and all the parts of the path, including the pinch roller, to make sure they are scrupulously clean. Has it been unused for a while? If so it may well need waking up slowly. Also check your tapes are in good condition.
Good luck!

Many thanks. I'll try your suggestions. When you say 'waking up slowly' do you mean leave it playing for a while? Many thanks, Andy

Looks like bad earthing around the head drum etc.Capstan motor could be running slow, possibly caused by those Tantulum caps if on this model.
