Well what ever the set is, it is big. Check out the depth of the cabinet. Exactly as one would expect a pre-war TV set to be like.
Note the white telephone.

If the aspect ratio is corrected it doesn't look quite so deep. It is a strange looking set with the inset Bakelite front and is that a cloth on the top or is it a pale veneer inset? With the four knob configuration I wondered if it might be a continental Philips model.

The Dutch DVD set is edited in the sense the break bumpers are removed, not my idea of, "Complete and unedited".

Good news is Talking Pictures TV are showing this on weekdays at the same time with Episode 1 yesterday. These have the original break bumpers intact but lacked the original Granada caption.

I'm slightly too young to remember this first time around. It's well up there with other classics like, "Upstairs Downstairs".

I only saw a few bits of episodes.
It was "made" by the use of the Vaughan Williams music, in my opinion.

Many programmes were. Perhaps that was the reason why I completely went off "Doctor Who" when the hideous 1980 version of the theme was introduced!

Now TPTV are showing Series 3 made after the colour strike we get to see the set in full colour in Episode 1!

Set in a wealthy London household.

I am beginning to think this is indeed a very elaborate TV prop.

It does not add up. The top of the cabinet is very much 'English Electric' themed. Likewise the main chassis is Bush TUG.. influenced and the mask has all the looks of a 1950 series Ultra W720 series.

I know of no model that has all these attributes but as I learn something new everyday, I am open to suggestions. Very intriguing. John.

There is also a chat section (via Emails) which includes creator and writer John Finch and Colin Douglas's son Tim contributing frequently.

One question that came up recently was the vintage broadcasts heard on the programme, singers and the likes and the comedy programmes. Any ideas what programmes and what the singers were?
