Re: Television in the Home
I just had a look through my collection of early 1950's leaflets, but the only ones showing a TV in a room setting are these from 1952.
Nb I took the colour ones in landscape mode but they have ended up here in portrait for some reason and I can't get my phone to present them properly. Last edited by Cobaltblue; 26th Feb 2021 at 12:08 pm. Reason: Sorry changed the order but now rotated (suspect apple device) |

Re: Television in the Home
Across the pond now... to 1939 and the RCA TRK-5.
Someone mentioned to me that the type of chair shown here is also in fashion today. Steve

Re: Television in the Home
Staying with RCA but a TRK12. Not exactly a domestic environment but with people seated in front of it.

Re: Television in the Home
Band I for hundreds of miles up there?
Staying in 1939, back to Blighty and this HMV. The 'coming season' was to hold a lot more than the introduction of more receivers into homes... It often seems strange to me how 'modern' the immediate pre-war designs looked. This set could have been made any time up to about 1952. Though the pre-war sets were heavier to lug about. Steve

Back to 1936 now, and this family have got in early, with a GEC in their library...

Re: Television in the Home
Critic Alan Hunter (below with his wife and dog) was very pleased with his HMV 901 in March 1938.

Re: Television in the Home
A Bush TV128 in the first flat that we bought in 1973. I think I pulled the set out of a skip. The stand it's sitting on was the base of a broken office chair.

Re: Television in the Home
It's been in possession almost sixty-one years now and my Pye FV1 still continues to give good service.
The old Pye still keeps going but the Perdio Portorama is a very unreliable set. The brochure tells us that the Pye FV1 is the TV set everybody wants. As the set's first owner lived in the Newcastle area it's likely the set was initially tuned to the Holme Moss transmitter. DFWB. |

Re: Television in the Home
OT for clarification and admitting my mistake, the camera was a Rolleiflex not a Bolex. My excuse is that I had both in the past.
Back on topic (I have mentioned this before, still fun) when I was 12 or so Grandad asked me to look at his telly (some rental colour job) on a Sunday afternoon, the colour had gone so he took the back off and twiddled all the convergence knobs. The picture was a right mess. I had to do a reasonable convergence adjustment from programme material only (fun) so the hire company didn't charge him for "fiddling". As it turned out there was a simple fault to find and the service chap didn't mind about the "fiddling", probably down to Grandmas suburb rock cakes and tea (and maybe a drop of Grandpas Whiskey)! I still wonder to this day what went on his timesheet. |

Re: Television in the Home
A happy pair on the screen.
They're happy because the awful original insides of this Baird Townsman have been stripped out and replaced with much better ones - from a Bush TV24A. Steve

Thanks. S

Re: Television in the Home
I wondered at that one. My thoughts are Masteradio or a Philips 1502. J.
