Default New lease of life for empty clock case.

Having restored this very nice Telefunken radio ,I needed a loudspeaker ,that's when I came up with the idea of using this empty clock case I think it complements it nicely , Mick.

I think this makes you 're-purpose' king of 2021 Mick.
Very impressive.

I think that last comment is going to now be taken as a challenge by a few folk to come up with something even better, but I agree it's a good repurposing, particularly as the clock case is matching Bakelite.

That challenge sounds dangerous, knowing some of the people on here.

Whatever you do, don't let any horological forum get a whiff of what you did to that clock.

Nice, especially since they are both made of the same material. It seems odd that the radio was designed without a speaker.

That was my thoughts there is certainly room for a speaker ,but that's how it is ,just to add the radio works very well for a TRF and good quality audio. Mick.

I was wondering what date the radio was made? Judging by the shape of the the valves, I imagine it was 1930 - 1935 period.

Year's ago in my youth I used to pick up old clock's for next to nothing at jumble fairs and I'd throw away the innards and mount speakers in them like this. I really enjoyed it at the time but now regret destroying some nice clocks. All long since gone now!
Nice job, that clock case really looks like a speaker cabinet.

I would be temped to do something similar as the circular hole for the clock face is just right for a speaker.

This beats all the upcycling I have ever seen.

Cut two slots in the top of that Radio and I am sure the valves would do a nice slice of toast as well.

The diagram picture appears to show that the audio output came from the two sockets at the left rear of the chassis and were used with a record player of some sort. You have two red wires connected directly to a low impedance loudspeaker, is there an output transformer somewhere?

I presume (hope) that the mains connections are just a temporary setup

The speaker shown in the centre picture in post#1 clearly has a matching transformer fitted.

Cheers

Nice use of an empty clock case! I’ve got the same case here, with it’s original innards! For speaker-less radio’s I’ve got an old Ekco extension speaker in a nice Bakelite cabinet, currently in use with an R1155 that has an amplifier shoe-horned in a small space under the chassis.

Lloyd

Not sure what you mean Ian the sockets on the left are for the record player pickup ,the ones on the right don't protrude through the back cover and are for a high imp speaker ,that is why I fitted an o/p tx in the speaker case.as for the mains input under the insulation there are three pins the right one was for 120v I have disconnected the wire to this ,no two pin socket I have will fit that is why I have soldered the wires directly ,I don't have a problem with doing that as I am going to make a back for it . Mick.
