I suggest if you have the manual there is probably an adjustment pot for the search mode, this probably wants a slight tweak as if the tape plays normally the back tension is good.

Interesting thanks for that advice. What might the pot be called and which board might it be on? The servo board?

As Sanbeta has indicated, my LED VU meters are failing. Here are some segments that need replacing. Can anyone guide me on what to buy and how to replace the failed segments please?
