Very good sets in their day. uses the later TX9 chassis which with a different power supply circuit did not suffer with intermittent fuse blowing as the earlier tx9 did.
They usually carried on with very little in the way of repairs until the tube was worn out. As good as any of the Japanese sets of the time IMHO...

Excellent chassis and very reliable the TX9 MK3, they certainly don't make them like that anymore.

I remember these sets well, sold and rented loads of them. Very reliable, easily matched the Japanese sets of the same era. Excellent pictures too.
Manufacturer supplied first class service manuals for all TX9 and TX10 models.

Is it a slide-out tray at the bottom (push in to release catch)?

There's usually a little push-out drawer in the lower-right corner (where the 'Ferguson TX' logo is).

Push firmly in (quite springy if I recall), then let go?

Is this what you are looking for below the speaker?

Not sure, but it does look like something's not quite right below the speaker grille on Mike's TV. Possibly it's been in a hotel and the door glued in position to stop the phantom twiddler? Might be worth taking the back off to check they are still where they should be.

Earlier sets had a drawer which popped out when pressed . The tuning controls were then in each side of the drawer. This set has a drop down door or flap which hinges down, the tuning controls are then in a row behind it. An adjustment tool to fit the controls was clipped to the back of the flap.
Sometimes something would drop into the hinge area and impede the flap opening. The flap is easy to remove by gently pulling it upwards. then the debris could be cleared . Careful not to break the hinges though.
