Default Yaesu FT102 intermittent transmit fault.

Hi, Just fired up my old FT102 after many years in storage. Initially everything was fine, got some good contacts etc. A few days later the problem started.
When I try to get an IC dip on meter 1 with the drive set at 9 o'clock and adjusting the preselect sometimes I manage to get a peak reading sometimes no needle movement at all Very frustrating.
All of the relays were replaced with Omron and Fujitsu some years ago, so I think the problem is somewhere else, although I suppose I should not assume that. I would like to at least know where to start. Perhaps someone could point me in the right direction. John (G4YDT)

Bandswitch and relays worth a squirt of De-Oxit. After that a gentle tap around in case there is anything intermitent with the insulated head of a screwdriver.
Also there is an FT Yaesu group that might direct you as well I believe.

Welcome to our forum John.

Regards David

Hello John

I've only ever experienced intermittent operation during receive on my FT102.
David's suggestion of tapping components sounds like a good idea.
It could be useful to look at the drive level during the fault condition.

Good luck
Pete

Hello John.

I have had several intermittent faults on my FT102. All have been caused by the relays. There are several mods on the internet to run a wetting current through the contacts, usually involving 10K resistors from +12v and earth. I have done that on mine and it has worked perfectly. No need to clean or replace the relays, just do the mod. I have had no further problems after that.

Best Wishes

Most of the faults on my FT101ZD were caused by poor switch contacts.
